Who blew your Vuvuzela, Zenani

By Murumba Wangamati | Category :: Poem

(Dedicated to the young Zenani Mandela who passed on a day before the World Cup in South Africa – 2010)

Who blew the Vuvuzela ,Zanani?
At the Mandela Bay Stadium
Who blew it for Bafanabafana?
For England
For Brazil
For Ivory Coast
For Ghana
For Germany
For all Soweto and the world to hear!
Who blew the Vuvuzela horn to cheer?

It was all jolly
As you attended the opening concert
Of the first Africa’s World Cup
On your way back home,
You left the path to your earthly home
Took the one that led to your heavenly home.
Sleep on Zenani, Sleep our little rose, sleep on
Who will blow your Vuvuzela horn now for the world to hear?

Sleep on, our little rose, sleep on
Daughter of Dlamini Zanani Mandela
Sleep on, great grandchild
Of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
Sleep on, great granddaughter
Of Winnie Madikizela Mandela
Sleep on, baby girl, sleep on
Zenani Zanethemba Nomasonto Mandela
Who will blow your Vuvuzela for the world to hear?

I know that Dusti rates your work highly. Reading this I can understand why.

"I know this man's work, and I recommend him to others! This poem is a fitting tribute to the sad event that even caused Nelson Mandela to be late for the official opening of the World Cup in South Africa."
Fiona Hunt
What a sad poem and a sad thing to happen to a parent/grandparent :(
